Fractional SDR Programme

Get paid to become dangerous on the phone.

You’ll be on a live sales floor in your first week, making 300+ dials a day across 10+ industries, to real buyers at real companies. Fully remote, from wherever you are in the world. We pay you by the hour from the minute you log on. No course fee, no fixed shifts, no experience needed.

01  ·  Who throxy is

Here’s what you’d be walking into.

We’re a sales company. Other companies hire us to reach buyers they can’t get to on their own, and they only pay us for meetings that actually happen. Not for software, not for seats, not for dashboards. So the whole business comes down to whether someone can get a stranger on the phone to say yes. That someone is you. Nothing sits between the work you do and the thing we sell.

We’re not one of those “AI replaces the salesperson” outfits. Our software does the research, builds the lists and clears the admin, so you spend your time on the one bit software can never do. You’re not competing with the machines here. They’re clearing your desk so you can talk.

We’re a Y Combinator company (Spring 2025), on track for our Series A, and building toward being the JP Morgan of sales. What that means for you day to day: hiring managers will know the name, and they’ll ask you about the floor you learned on.

02  ·  Why cold calling

Cold calling is the most valuable skill a seller can own.

Everyone chased email and LinkedIn until both were saturated. They were built by tech people selling to tech people, and they now land in an inbox that has already binned forty like them this morning. Meanwhile the buyers who actually hold the budget, in manufacturing, insurance, property, industrials, still live on the phone. Almost nobody calls them.

There’s a reason for that. Most people are scared of the phone. Ringing a stranger who didn’t ask to hear from you is genuinely hard, and that fear is what keeps the channel empty. It’s also the whole opportunity. The people willing to get good at it win, and there are fewer of them every year.

Trust on a cold call is a craft, not a trait.
Nobody is born good at this. That’s why it can be taught, and why this programme exists.

It’s also the skill that travels furthest. If you can open a stranger, survive a hostile ten seconds and still land the ask, everything after that gets easier. Discovery, negotiation, closing, selling your own company, raising money. All of it is easier than the cold open. People who can do this are never short of work, which is exactly why they keep getting hired away.

01

The opener

The first ten seconds decide the call. You learn to earn attention from someone who didn’t ask for it, without a gimmick and without apologising for ringing.

02

The pitch

Saying the useful thing in two sentences, in words the person on the other end already uses. Most reps never get this tight, because they never get enough goes at it.

03

Objection handling

“Not interested.” “Send me an email.” “How did you get this number?” Each one has a shape, and each one is trainable. You’ll hear all of them before lunch.

04

The full call

Holding a real conversation start to finish, qualifying honestly, and getting it into a diary. This is what separates someone who dials from someone who books.

These are the four modules of The Cold-Call Craft, our in-house academy. It’s built entirely from recordings of real calls that booked real meetings. Every SDR on the programme gets it, and nobody pays for it.

03  ·  What the programme is

A trading floor for cold calls, not a classroom.

We run calling pools. A pool is a live campaign for a real client, with its own list and its own script. You get assigned to one or more of them, and you join whenever they’re live and call for as long as you want. Nobody puts you on a rota. There’s no shift to book and no minimum you owe anyone. You log on, you dial, you log off.

What that buys you is volume, and volume is the whole point. You’ll make 300+ dials a day where a normal SDR makes fewer than 100, across 10+ industries where a normal SDR sees one or two. Different buyers, different objections, different scripts, every single day. You learn 10x faster here than you would anywhere else.

The closest comparison isn’t another sales job. It’s joining McKinsey or BCG: you go because the sheer density of the work compresses a decade of exposure into months, and because the name travels with you afterwards. This is that, for sales.

Read the middle column again, because that’s the one that costs people years. A normal SDR job sounds like a cold-calling job. It isn’t. The dialling is whatever is left after the email sequences, the LinkedIn touches, the list building and the CRM tidying, so you can sit in that seat for a year and come out with a few hundred real conversations to show for it. That’s why we’re the best place on earth to learn this. We’re the only one that lets you do almost nothing else.

What it pays, worked through (UK example)

Two parts. An hourly rate for every minute you’re logged on, and £25 for every meeting you book that gets accepted, which you keep even if the prospect later moves or cancels it. The standard we hold you to is one accepted meeting per 2.5 hours on the dialler. The worked example below is for the UK, priced off the UK legal minimum. The programme is global, and what you are paid where you live is set locally — the two-part structure is the same everywhere.

Base rate, per pool hour£12.71
Payment per accepted meeting£25.00
Performance standard *1 per 2.5 hrs
→ Meeting pay, per pool hour£10.00
Subtotal, per pool hour£22.71
Rolled-up holiday pay, +12.07%£2.74
Effective, per pool hour£25.45

* This is a floor, not a target. It’s the minimum you need to hold to stay on the programme, and anyone still below it at the end of probation is at risk of being let go. It’s also well within reach: our current SDRs book about one meeting an hour, two and a half times the standard. So it isn’t impossible, and it isn’t even unlikely. It’s what the floor already does.

* UK figures. Calculated at the UK National Living Wage floor for ages 21 and over from 1 April 2026 (£12.71/hr), and assuming you hit the performance standard. Hit no meetings at all and the base rate plus holiday pay is £14.24/hr — that is the true floor. If you are based outside the UK, your rate is set for your market and your local rules apply, so treat this as a worked illustration of how the two parts fit together rather than as your number. The UK legal minimum for 18 to 20 year olds is lower, £10.85, and we don’t pay it. Everyone on the programme is paid at the 21-and-over rate whatever their age, because the same work to the same standard shouldn’t be worth less because you’re nineteen. Your actual base rate is set in your agreement and can be higher. UK holiday pay is the statutory 12.07% of what you earn, shown as its own line on every payslip, and we run PAYE there, so you’re a worker rather than a contractor and your tax and National Insurance are handled for you. We also run SPIFFs, temporary bumps to the meeting payment, which are discretionary and sit on top of all of the above.

Your hours

None fixed. Join any pool you’re assigned to, whenever it’s live, for as long as you want.

Your kit

Your own laptop and a quiet room. We provide the dialler, the lists, the CRM and the logins.

Your first 2 weeks

Probation. Coaching, the academy and a live pool from day one. You’re earning the whole time.

Read this before the numbers

This is not about the money.

£25 an hour isn’t bad. Take it, and take the SPIFFs on top. But it’s not the reason to do this, and if it is your reason you’ll quit in week two.

It’s about what happens to you. People turn up here shy and timid, or unable to stop talking, and they leave dangerous. Elite on the phone. That change is the actual product. The money is just what makes it possible to sit through.

The point is to get you out of the 99% of the SDR pool who get screened, filtered and passed over. Come out the other end and companies will be chasing you instead.

04  ·  Outcomes

Where our SDRs end up.

The honest pitch here isn’t the hourly rate. It’s what the hourly rate gets you access to. Our best SDRs are placed into £60k+ roles within months of starting, because someone who can prove they book meetings into cold enterprise accounts is one of the scarcest hires going.

They get poached constantly. By YC startups, by other venture-backed companies, and by big sales organisations who’ve worked out that the phone still works and can’t find anyone who can use one. We treat that as the programme doing its job rather than as people leaving, and we help. You get career support, a reference built on numbers instead of adjectives, and a call record that proves what you can do.

And you’re paid the whole time you’re learning. Nothing else in sales training does that.

05  ·  Apply

What we’re actually looking for.

Not experience. Not a degree. Not a sales background. The skill is trainable, that’s the whole premise. What we can’t train is turning up and dialling again when the last four calls went badly.

  • You’re willing to be bad at something in public for a fortnight.
  • You can hold a clear, credible conversation in English.
  • You have a quiet room, a laptop and a connection that holds up.
  • You can cover your pool’s calling window from wherever you live.
  • You want to be measured on numbers you can check yourself.

If you lead a community, read this bit

If you run a jobseekers’ group, a bootcamp, a university society, a returners’ network, or any community with people looking for a way into sales, this is built to be easy to refer into. No fee, no qualifications needed, no fixed hours, so it fits around study, caring for someone, or another job. People get paid from their first minute on the phone, and they leave with a skill and a track record instead of a certificate. Get in touch here and throxy will run a session for your members.

Apply to the programmeTwo-week probation. 48 hours’ notice either way after that.
